The Thursday Cantonese Opera Group was established in 2018 and now includes over 20 active members—passionate opera enthusiasts ranging from seasoned performers to eager beginners. Together, they strive for excellence and mutual growth, preserving the cultural heritage of Cantonese opera in Melbourne. Their repertoire features popular styles from opera societies across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, including Pingzi Hou, Shuangping Hou, and Shuangzi Hou vocal techniques. The group performs a wide range of classic pieces—from romantic tales and tragic love stories to humorous and harmonious themes—with approximately 40–50 rotating duet selections. Due to growing interest, an additional Monday afternoon class has been introduced to accommodate new learners.
